Ashley Arrossa |
10/09/2008 Hi! My name is Ashley Arrossa. If you roll the 'r's you are saying it better than I do most of the time. It's a Basque last name. I am a third year at Tech studying Environmental Engineering and in July I came back from spending a year in Oregon. Oregon, as you know, is the home to many great coffeeshops and coffeehouses. I worked at a campus coffeeshop/ice cream parlor named EBGB's - but the quality and technique involved in making the coffee/specialty drinks was nothing in comparison to MSC. I enjoyed an organic shop named Interzone, but we never quite found a shop like MSC that we could just walk into and feel at home. Formerly a customer, I decided to ask Patty for a job. One of her favorite sayings is "A good restaurant [or plumbing/construction co. apparently] always needs a good worker." I arrived back in Socorro on July 1st and started working here a week later. I quickly became the opener of Manzanares Street Coffehouse 3-5 days a week. Since the summer, I work a bit less now at the coffeehouse because I go to school at NMT and work at the Financial Aid Office. I now wake up at 5 am out of habit - ready to hop on my bicycle and get to work. ;) My usual work day consists of baking scones, cookies, croissants, and other pastries, making the morning brew, and enjoying the sunrise. Then drowsy customers come in need of a pick-me-up! I love the regulars - (Fayne with her pink travel mug ready for a caramel latte, and the daily Richard visits for newspaper reading. I could go on and on...) I try and take off by around 9:30 to make it to class by 10. For the rest of the day I smell like coffee, cookies, and sanitizer. The amount of tips may or may not have a direct correlation with what "beverage" I get later that night and/or what I eat for lunch. :0) My bicycle is named after the Cylon Anders on Battlestar Gallactica. It's bright yellow. Thanks to Eli for turning off my blinky LED light the other morning when I left it on! I like to run and this summer I did the Los Alamos sprint triathalon with some friends. Our team received gold medals! I enjoy great Indie music including Jose Gonzalez, Iron & Wine, Band of Horses, and Deathcab for Cutie. I like to talk about science and current events. I absolutely love, love, love coffee and all espresso drinks! I've just recently been able to create Latte Art that was descernable. :) I can't wait for the winter when people come in with scarves and gloves on and warm up with a hot and sweet drink. So, come visit me in the mornings and let me practice latte art! |

8/31/2008 We have a new freature here on the web-site. Now you can see what your favorite members of the staff have to say. For example I feel that there is a drink missing on the menu. Chaya, "Espresso Guru", and one of our faithful staff, created a wonderful drink that I very much enjoy. It is a Chai Tea with 2 shots of espresso plus some other good stuff. I highly recommend picking one up! |
